Constipation. There I said it. I know it's "taboo," but let's face it, when you are dieting, you are going to have a bout or two with this evil feign. Unfortunately, the constipation I've experienced for the last two days (days eight and nine of Induction) has been accompanied with horrid abdominal cramps.
After lots of research and posting a thread in an Atkins forum on the website, I have come to the conclusion that I'm not drinking enough water. I believe it's because I wasn't drinking nearly the amount I have been when I wasn't dieting, but I'm not drinking enough to aid in all the fiber I'm eating now. I've been getting in about 48oz. daily. The Atkins program calls for AT LEAST 64oz. Someone else suggested half my body weight in ounces per day. If that's the case, I'm WAY off!!
So I'm going to up the water intake- a lot. Hopefully this will remedy the problem.
I have to admit that yesterday during the three hours I was rolling in my bed in awful pain, I did get very discouraged. I know I can always see a doctor and I'm not going to have pain all the time, the discouragement was with the overwhelming feeling that I was doing something wrong. I thought to myself, "I have spent so much time reading the book and digesting all the info on the website, what could I have missed?" I really want this to work, and my motivation is finally where it should be. I don't want anything to throw me off track. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the community at atkins.com is amazing. It's been such a help for me in these first few days.
If you find yourself dealing with this problem in your first stage of Atkins, I advise you to DRINK UP! Never underestimate the power of peers online that are doing and have done what you are doing.... if you follow! LOL:) Okay. I've gotta go... no really, I've Got to Go!!!
